WONDER GIRLS' new album 'Different Tears' [sic] was produced in 3 languages -- Korean, Chinese & Japanese [sic] -- & will be simultaneously released worldwide. Although this new album was originally aimed at the American market, they have now substantially expanded their scope. Last September, WONDER GIRLS was the first Korean group to enter the Hot 100 Singles Chart with 'Nobody', ranking #76 at that time. Subsequently, they advocated marching into the American market with a full album, etc. The initial album release was scheduled for early this year, but Sunmi's exit & other factors delayed it to the month of May.

Beyond the calendar postponement, the geographical [masterplan] also altered & consequently the US strategy was left in suspense as well. Even with full focus on the American market, the likelihood of success is not high. There was also a counterpoint whether China, etc. in Asia was worth abandoning for the sake of making it big in America.
Through WONDER GIRLS' preparations of their album release, we can approximate their outlook about this situation. WONDER GIRLS' Hot 100 chart feat & their opening for Jonas Brothers concerts produced much results, but has yet to secure a major record label who can genuinely help them sell the albums. Without such major assistance, they are unable to guarantee success in the American market. The album release date was thus deferred.

Consequently, there was [also] a strategic re-maneuver to simultaneously advance into Asia, which has a solid fanbase. This can be interpreted as a quest with minimum risk. Entering the Asian markets represent a guaranteed success, which can [in turn] reduce the uncertainty with the American market.
WONDER GIRLS' simultaneous worldwide album release can set a significant precedent for K-pop artistes who are targeting America. Although BoA, Se7en & other singers have focused extensively on the American market, they have not achieved the desired results & their foothold in established stomping grounds have also shrunk.

This is the sobering context for K-pop artistes when they aimed for America. We look forward to WONDER GIRLS' blueprint becoming a new insurance method of targeting America, by way of developing their current strongholds.
WONDER GIRLS is teaming up with major American events organizer LiveNation for a 9-city, 20-concert [sic?] tour that will begin on June 4. Even if this album is not a great success, WONDER GIRLS is counting on consolidating a stronger foundation [there].
